Vision & Goal

IMI's vision is to establish Singapore at the forefront of the global interactive digital media revolution by driving innovation, pushing forward the boundaries of knowledge, and educating the next generation of scientists and technologists in the multi-disciplinary field of interactive digital media or IDM.

Advances in digital and communication technologies are significantly changing the way people communicate with each other and/or with computers. In a media landscape characterized by social webs, mobility and user as producer, IMI will strive to become a world-class research centre and incubator for cutting edge applications in fields like Media Networking, Computer Graphics and Animation, D-Cinema, Game Technology, Game Intelligence, Real-time World Simulation, Virtual and Augmented Reality, Virtual Learning and Training, Digital Content Production, Artistic Modeling and Media Art.

Goals :
1. To facilitate multi-disciplinary research thereby bridging the academia and industry through technology transfers and spin-offs. The current interactive digital media research encompasses media content research and media systems research, and strong interdisciplinary partnerships are therefore critical. IMI will realize this vision by forging strong partnerships with other research institutes within NTU like IERC, HSS, CAMTECH, SIRC, IMARC, LS&T and ITTO. By harnessing and leveraging on their strong engineering, design, educational and social science research potential, IMI will facilitate and promote cross-disciplinary collaboration between the natural sciences and social sciences, bridge media systems research and media content research, putting the two on an equal footing, and bring together the academia and industry through technology transfers and spin-offs. As IMI grows, it will also foster research partnerships with other global players from both academia and industry.

2. To contribute to the development of a viable and burgeoning industry in the digital media in Singapore, and establish Singapore as a global centre of excellence in digital R & D, thereby making it a key player in the global digital R & D field.
